YouTube might be the overlord of the Internet video world, and channels such as Hulu, VEVO and Netflix may be popular sources for watching TV and movies online, but where do you go when you want to really see stars? Will you be browsing www.direct.tv for some new shows and relevant packages?
If you want those sparkly dots you see in the midnight sky? Naturally, NASA TV, of course.
Three of NASA Television’s channels – Public, Education and Media – are available as streaming video on the Web. The HD Channel will be coming to the Web soon.
• NASA Public – the “NASA TV” carried most often by satellite and cable TV providers, this channel covers NASA missions and events, plus special programming and documentaries. Keep up to the minute with what’s happening on the International Space Station on this channel and get regular updates on space progams on “This Week @ NASA.”
• NASA Education – schools, museums and educational institutions can access space- and science-related programming.
• NASA Media – news conference coverage video and audio materials are available to news organizations, national and international.
• NASA HD – NASA provides high-definition photos and videos from manned and unmanned spaceflight missions, as well as other events.
The NASA website isn’t the only place to view multimedia from space, of course. NASA TV is also available in high definition on UStream, as YouTube videos, and in mobile streaming format for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch.
And, video isn’t the only form of multimedia available on the Web. You can take part in several interactive project on nasa.gov and access NASA’s 3D resources as well.
